H.E Major General Nicholas Peter Andoh

Major General Nicholas Peter Andoh was born on 21st  April 1962 at Asankrangwa in the Western North Region of Ghana. He obtained his Ordinary Level Certificate in Asankragwa Secondary School and progressed to Tarkwa Secondary School for his Advanced Level Certificate.  He holds a Master of Philosophy degree in Finance from the University of Ghana Business School, Legon, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration (Banking and Finance) and a Diploma in Management from the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria.

He was enlisted into the Ghana Military Academy in October 1984 as an Officer Cadet of Regular Career Course 26, commissioned on 16 August 1986 and started his military career as a Platoon Commander in the 6th Infantry Battalion in Tamale.

In Major General Andoh’s over 3 decades of distinguished career, he has held several military appointments including instructor at the Ghana Military Academy and Army Recruit Training School, Chief Instructor at the Jungle warfare school, Officer Commanding at the Jungle Warfare School, Deputy Director Army Training at the Army Headquarters, Assistant Director Army Peacekeeping Operations also at the Army Headquarters, Commanding Officer of the Jungle Warfare School, Assistant Chief of Staff (Operations and Training) at the General Headquarters, Army Secretary at the Army Headquarters, Director General of the Defence Industries Department at the General Headquarters, Director General of Defence Intelligence and Chief of Defence Intelligence at the Department of Defence Intelligence. He also played a major role in shaping the Accra Initiative and in forging relative peace and stability within the West African sub-region. 

His last military appointment was as Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces, an appointment he held from 5th February 2021 to 13th February 2024.

Major General Andoh has held numerous appointments in International Peace Support Missions. Key among his appointments are, Mortar officer in the 2nd Ghanaian Battalion at the ECOWAS Monitoring Group in Liberia, Company Commander at the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia, Deputy Force Training officer at the United Nations  Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1996- 97, Chief operations officer at the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo from February to October 2002, Commanding Officer of the 16th Ghanaian Battalion at the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2009, Military Observer in Kuwait and Chief Military Personnel Officer /Contingent Commander at the United Nation Interim Force in Lebanon.

Major General Andoh also holds to his credit other certificated courses including Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration course from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Post-graduate Certificate in International Defence Resources Management at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California-USA, Africa Decision-Making Cooperation Course in Cairo, Egypt and the International Intelligence Directors Course in Chicksands, United Kingdom.

He is also a proud recipient of the Republic of Ghana Grand Medal, a State Honour conferred on him in recognition of his immense contributions and outstanding performance during the country’s fight against Covid – 19 Pandemic.

Major General Andoh is happily married to Mrs. Mary Andoh. The couple is blessed with three daughters.
